New Photo: On the Brink
I have a new camera! I’ve pushed this last camera as far as possible, but it was time. Taking a look at
finances, I realized I can do this. So, I finished my research and placed my order. In this post, I’m sharing
an image that has me ready to dive back in more deeply into my photography.

I decided to switch to Nikon. I ended up with a Nikon Z-6 (though I have to admit, I’m toying with the idea
of trading it in on a Z-7 just to be able to crop images a bit) with a couple of lenses. This one and this one.
I’ve taken it out a bit – learning settings and such. I’m in love with that first lens and have a list already of
more I want to add. The thrill of a better camera opens me up to pushing my photography even further,
and I can hardly wait until all these settings are just automatic for me.
While in the Upper Geyser Basin last week, three bull elk were hanging out along the Firehole River. That
gave me a chance to see what all I could do with my camera gear. Everyone there was reasonably good
about giving them their space, though a few of us familiar with elk asked the others to create a path for
one to cross the walkway.
This shot convinced me that making this switch was definitely the right move. As you can see, the velvet on
this boy’s antlers is just beginning to shed. The grasses are also starting to cure out, and the days are taking
a bit longer to warm up. We are definitely on the brink of fall.
