Around Here July 2019

by | Jul 28, 2019

It’s high time for another “around here” post – especially appropriate when life has caused a pause in my blogging. I used to fuss and worry about these pauses, but I fully accept that this is just a part of it. Bottom line is that I’ve been out and enjoying life. So here’s what’s going on around here this July…

Enjoying the heat. Summer has arrived. After a late spring that lasted through the 4th of July, the temperatures here have finally risen into the 80s and touched the 90s on occasion. Everyone is out and about now and the gardens are finally starting to produce. We planted three rounds of beans and the third time is a charm. Is it crazy to say that I love weeding? I only work at it 15 min or so at a time, but that sure does get quite a bit done.

Photographing wildflowers. With that long, wet spring, the wildflowers this year are stunning.

Loving the 4th of July with the 100th Anniversary of the Stampede. The parade and rodeo started as a celebration of the opening of Yellowstone for the summer. Back then, the local men dug out the road from the winter snow from the Cody side by hand while the Park Service men did the same from the other side. Now it’s just what we do the first four days in July in Cody.

Watching the reins on the Ishawooa Horse’s Head. The reins broke on July 6 this year. Normally they break around Father’s Day. LOTS of snow up there this spring

Traveling a bit at the end of June. I headed with Mom and my sister to Portland for a family wedding. This was a welcome break and we spent a bit of time exploring. Envious of the produce at the Farmers Market there.

More to come as life allows. Get out there and enjoy the summer!
